BuildUp Series: 3D Print Design Holiday Camp

Welcome to our 3D Print Designing Class for children ages 9 and above using Tinkercad! This class is designed to introduce kids to the fascinating world of 3D printing and design, and to teach them how to create their own 3D models using Tinkercad software.

The Tinkercad software is free for use on the internet, and designs will be saved in students’ accounts. The new 3D print 5-day workshop aims to give students an introduction into how 3d printers work, as well as how to design models for successful printing. The main focus of this course will be to design useable/useful parts that can support inventions, hobbies, or other projects.

  • Understand the basics of 3D design using Tinkercad
  • Understand model slicing and various print settings in BambuStudio.
  • Use “solid” and “hole” to create various design shapes.
  • Activity: Name Tag with hole and Cup with handle
Session 2: Part Fitting
  • Understand how to create “press fit” designs – objects that can fit snugly together.
  • Understand how to create “print in place” designs – printing multiple objects with free moving joints in a single print.
  • Activity: Box with lid, chain strap
Session 3: Mechanical Parts
  • Understand how to create gears and levers with tolerance allowance
  • Activity: Fidget Clicker, Lever Grabber
Session 4: Adapting Real Life Objects
  • Create designs that can be used to replace, extend, or modify things
  • Learn how to use the inbuilt tools like the Ruler tool on Tinkercad for measurements.
  • Activity: Custom LEGO Brick, Mobile phone charging stand
